‘Nia is originally from Huntsville, Al.
‘Nia began her music career via a demo contract at East Avalon Studios in Muscle Shoals, Alabama, as an in house vocalist with producer Don Daily who originally discovered her while working at ‘Fame’ studios. During this time ‘Nia also sang in various nightclubs in and around Huntsville, Alabama.
‘Nia also sang backup on an album recorded by Jack Holder and Eli Ball at 'Sounds Unreel' studio in Memphis, TN.
Before moving to Santa Barbara, CA, ‘Nia sang along with the acoustic guitar accompaniment of Greg Rowell, co-owner and producer/engineer of Main Street Music, Records and Publishing in Muscle Shoals, Al.
‘Nia then formed a band named ‘Global Warming’ which was based on material ranging from bluesy folk rock to alternative rock and continued to perform in the Huntsville, Alabama and surrounding areas.
While living in Santa Barbara, CA ‘Nia became the lead vocalist for the 'Strawberry Alarm Clock Band' who had the late sixties hit "Incense and Peppermints."
After moving to Wilmington, NC in 2005, ‘Nia began forming her current act, self named ‘nia, with the help of many influential people in the local music industry.
Nia's partner, John Korell has been significant in the music preparation that will be implemented at live performances, as well as, accompanying her on keyboards.
Now ready for the live performances, ‘Nia is currently booking shows in Wilmington and surrounding area venues.
An original CD is in the beginning stage of development and will be released sometime early 2007.
‘Nia has been personally recognized and given serious inspiration by Roseanne Cash, Suzy Nolen, (backup singer for Miami Sound Machine), Don Daily, producer at well known 'Fame' Studio's in Muscle Shoals, AL, Jack Holder, ‘Sounds UnReel’ Studio, Memphis, TN. and most recently by Todd Mark Rubenstein, TMR Productions, Nashville, TN.
‘Nia’s musical influences range from Fiona Apple to Alice In Chains to Jewel.
While predominantly a vocalist, Nia has some experience with piano.
‘Nia is also an accomplished artist, creating dichroic fused glass jewelry that
is shown at the Louis Wells Cameron Art Museum and other galleries in the area.
Nia’s ambition is to create music that evokes an emotional response from her fans. She believes that she is simply telling the stories of life by singing out to the world.Another personal goal is to have her jewelry become well known by placing her pieces in galleries and museums in galleries around the world.
DISCOGRAPHY:
I have contributed back-up vocals at 'Sounds UnReel' Studio in Memphis, TN.
I have been contracted as a demo vocalist at East Avalon Studios in Muscle Shoals, AL.
I am in the process now of recording an original cd with songs that I have personally written, adding one or two songs from another songwriter that I have developed a relationship with in Germany.
The cd will be a mix of female led rock tunes and emotional ballads with an alternative twist. You can check out two of my originals that are rough demos at myspace.com/___nia___
The lyrics and melodies I write are about life and how the sound of the music and vocals personify the emotions everyone deals with in individual ways in different situations.
Live Performance:
For the moment I have a adequate sound system with some lighting. My partner John Korell and I do our own sound but a sound technician would be an added bonus. Stage hands would also be a nice addition. Stage dimensions, as of now, are small as there are just two of us. Ultimately we wish to have a complete band project. It is our goal to promote ourselves with audio/video demos, live performance and the internet to achieve this purpose.
